Our journey began with worrying about our loved ones' safety—it’s a feeling that many of us know too well. When Adrian's wife worked late shifts and my girlfriend went for morning runs, we found ourselves always checking if they got home safely. These everyday worries became even bigger after a brutal assault that took place in our country, right in the middle of a big city. Looking for solutions that could make our girls safer, we noticed that most common self-defense tools either stay at home or end up buried at the bottom of a bag. They're complicated, might be dangerous, or require permits. That's why we created Hearo—a great alternative that’s simple to use, effective, and aesthetic enough to become part of your daily outfit.
Diving deeper into safety issues, we realized the problem was much bigger than we thought. The reality in Europe is alarming. One in three women has experienced physical or sexual violence, and 55% have faced sexual harassment since the age of 15 (FRA, 2023). These aren't just statistics—they're our wives, sisters, daughters, and friends. We hope that our alarms will become not only a safety tool but also a conversation starter about the current situation, raising awareness and driving change.
In all of this, we were never alone. From the very beginning, our partners supported us in this mission—sharing their ideas and experiences, helping us refine our alarm so it would better meet the real needs of women. Thanks to their involvement, we created something that can not only help in dangerous situations but also build a sense of safety every day.
